A Brief Pause in the Conversation

I've known for several months that I'm being furloughed at work (our whole staff is) for the next week. It comes with the territory, I suppose, working at a nonprofit in a down economy. Not a huge deal except for the loss of five vacation days.

Since my original pie-in-the-sky travel plans didn't come together, it's going to be a week busying myself, for fun, in Minneapolis. There are literally a million things I'm hoping to do during this free week and just as many that I won't find time to, but to make it easier I'm also going to take time off from what feels sometimes like a second job - Getafilm. So, I won't post anything new until early next week. Seeing as how I'm not accountable to anyone but myself here, it's a pretty liberating feeling.

In the meantime, there are some marathon posts to read below from the last couple of weeks. Thanks much for reading and I look forward to coming back online and continuing the neverending movie conversation next week.

  1. Indeed Dan. There are times the entire management of a blog becomes so all-consuming that you simply must step back and take a break, especially when work commitments (like yours) must be attended to first. In this sense I quite agree that Getafilm is a "second job!"

  2. I know you can relate, Sam, although in this case my work commitments aren't in the way, but also out of the way - involuntarily. So I'm trying to turn it into an actual vacation and not feel pressured to keep things up here!

The week will be over before I know it, though...

  3. Daniel - I know a furlough is always unwanted, but I hope you enjoy the break.

Thanks so much for highlighting the POV season.

  4. Enjoy your breather, Daniel! :)

  5. See - the week's half-over already. I hope you've completed 500,000 things that you wanted to do by now, if not 600k.

This is Tom Bodette (or whatever the heck his name is)...we'll leave the light on for you.

  6. Simon, thanks so much for the work you do, and for taking the time to come here and comment. I saw and enjoyed "New Muslim Cool" and look forward to the rest of the season.

F, F, and F - thanks. I've been mostly unproductive in most aspects, and I can't figure out if that's a good thing or a bad thing. (And Fletch, great try with the name. I have no idea what it really is but that's a solid guess.)

  7. Daniel -

Hope you've been enjoying your "staycation." By coincidence, I've been off work this week myself, and I haven't blogged at all, but I've enjoyed cathing up with other activities, like reading books for a wild change of pace. Hope your time off was similarly enjoyable.

  8. Thanks, Pat! It was definitely a nice breather from the blogosphere. Kind of makes me want to do it a little more regularly...

Yeah, books - those were the days, weren't they? Sad.

  9. D: I'm glad you liked NMC!
    All the best,
