Mall Cops, Dogs, and Another Trip to D.C.

If you're in Minneapolis and you see either of these over "Che", don't come crying...

Find my scoldings of the bad-as-they-look Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Hotel for Dogs in tomorrow's Star Tribune.

In the meantime, I'm going to be leaving for Washington, D.C. tomorrow afternoon to spend the weekend with friends and attend the inauguration on Tuesday. I have one post in the pipeline for the weekend but have no idea what my Wi-Fi access will be like for the next five days, so please excuse my likely absence. Flights are always good writing time for me, though (I wrote a number of reviews up there in the sky this year, actually), so when I get back I hope to have reviews ready of The Wrestler, Notorious, and Trouble the Water, which I finally saw last weekend.

Also, I've decided I'm going to take the last week in January (26-30) to comprehensively review 2008, ending with my Top 10 list that Friday, which I can already tell you is not going to be a "10 best" ranking so much as it's going to be a "most important and/or most socially significant in my opinion" ranking.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and if you're going to be in D.C. this weekend as well, maybe our paths will cross in the thronging masses of millions. I'll be the guy wearing shorts - we've had windchills in the 20s and 30s below zero for about the last 90 hours straight, so a 60 degree temperature swing is going to feel downright tropical. I hope.

  1. It's interesting that you can write on the plane. I'm always so envious of those people.

This is what I do: SLEEP. I can't read, write, or do anything else with my eyes b/c I get motion sickness.

Oh, and I'm gonna go see Paul Blart, MBV - 3D, and Notorious, so IN YR FACE CHE!

  2. Travel safely and say hi to Barack for me.

  3. I don't know, Fox, it's either reading or writing for me up there in a cocoon of silence. Though it depends on when I'm able to use my "approved electronic devices".

Thanks, Craig, I'll see if he can hear my voice through the din.

  4. Very fun reviews in the Star-Trib. Sometimes the writing is simply the best reward for subjecting oneself to a film like that. :)

Have a grand and safe time in D.C.

  5. Thanks, T.S. I have to admit - the Paul Blart review was especially fun to write. Fat lot of good it did steering away the public from making it the box-office winner this weekend, though. Go figure.

And D.C. was more grand than I thought it could have been.
