Anyway, I'll anxiously wait to see what your already eloquent thoughts are on this one.

Truth be told, I couldn't pick Peter Weir out of a lineup, either. I admire his humility, and his ability to direct such varied material.

Speaking of "felonious": I cannot WAIT to read your piece on A Simple Plan, which was my U MOTM for December and is currently in your queue.

Nice. I hope to have a lot more to say about The Mosquito Coast in the coming weeks, and hope I'm as eloquent in my praise of a feloniously underrated movie.

Peter Weir is the best kept secret in the film world. I doubt many of the people who visit your site could pick him out of a police lineup. Weir doesn't go on TV talking about his artistic process a lot. All he's done in thirty years is not make a single bad movie.

Great series here. Keep up the great work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435253058176416288.post-59274513257484512302008-03-23T20:45:00.000-05:002008-03-23T20:45:00.000-05:00Thanks, Rick. If we're taking the time to maintain a blog, chances are we have some little movies that we want to put on a pedestal every now and then. If you do catch it again I look forward to what I'm sure would be an awesome review.

Thanks for the tip, Justin - I hadn't seen that before. Like that blog, too. It's a very good video, but I wish it would have been a little more condemning of those who casually spoil movies. I clearly do in my reviews, but I've also said from the beginning that they should only be read after the movie. Sites and blogs that give away the details during production are quite annoying, but I avoid them as best I can.Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05222052132452709301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435253058176416288.post-48446114515718116742008-03-23T14:25:00.000-05:002008-03-23T14:25:00.000-05:00Speaking of spoilers, there was an interesting vid...Speaking of spoilers, there was an interesting video that The Movie Blog post a little while ago about their rules in dealing with them. It's worth checking out.

http://www.themovieblog.com/2008/02/spoilersJustin Snowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00611954911720516065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435253058176416288.post-23122657278053555762008-03-22T20:54:00.000-05:002008-03-22T20:54:00.000-05:00Thanks for the visits, Don and Justin. I swear he even purposefully makes mistakes in his reviews just to mess with people. It will be something small, like the wrong year in the movie or something. Nonetheless, he's a legend for my generation and I absolutely respect him. I haven't seen The Last Wave but it sounds promising. Actually, so now does Weir's next film based on what you mention about it.

Justin, I think it will be worth your time. It's a Harrison Ford that you don't see much. And really, if someone told me that Peter Weir was directing Ford, Mirren, and Phoenix in any movie I would be pretty excited.

Well, Craig, spoilers are spoilers! It's pretty clear that Harrison and Co. aren't going to live in paradise for the rest of their lives, but there's still some good suspense.Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05222052132452709301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435253058176416288.post-78758252467534792492008-03-22T17:35:00.000-05:002008-03-22T17:35:00.000-05:00I managed to escape unscathed and spoiler free Dan...I managed to escape unscathed and spoiler free Daniel, no worries.

You can't be expected to to keep the secrets of a 20-year-old movie.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435253058176416288.post-64423125892834209862008-03-22T11:04:00.000-05:002008-03-22T11:04:00.000-05:00I've actually never heard of this movie until now....I've actually never heard of this movie until now. I recently re-watch The Last Wave (1977), which is interesting and damn spooky, and well worth the time. I wrote a little about it in my blog last month.
Sometimes critics just miss the point. I love Ebert's reviews, but once or twice a year I read one and think, "Huh? Did you see the same movie I just did?" Not surprising, really, given the sheer number of movies he sees.
Anyway, thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out.Donhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13390912496378270910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435253058176416288.post-16317021631690896382008-03-21T21:25:00.000-05:002008-03-21T21:25:00.000-05:00Well that might be my biggest accomplishment of th...Well that might be my biggest accomplishment of the day, Craig.

I assume you avoided most of this as it contains some spoilers. Hopefully you did - if not, sorry. In any case, it's an excellent choice for a late-night movie. I saw somebody say that somewhere and it's totally true. Get comfy (not too comfy) and pop it on at 11:30 PM or so. Despite what Ebert says, it should keep your attention, and if you go to bed soon afterwards it should marinate nicely in your head overnight. If all goes well you'll have some introspective day dreams the next day.

Or you might be bored and agree with the critics. Still worth a shot, especially as Indy fever heats up this summer.Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05222052132452709301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435253058176416288.post-53927952466352829572008-03-21T20:06:00.000-05:002008-03-21T20:06:00.000-05:00You know, I've never actually sat down and watched...You know, I've never actually sat down and watched this one, but maybe it's time I did.

I remember when it came out, I thought "Cool, Han Solo is in another movie", the guy could do no wrong at that point, but then maybe because it got kind of stiffed by critics, I never bothered seeing it and eventually forgot all about it.

So if your goal is to call attention to an underappreciated movie in the hope that someone somewhere will give it a second chance, you win.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
